Not sure anymore about the apprenticeship program or having someone sign off on your hours in order to get a license.
Trotline- Boat $5,000 for one that will last you a few years.  $5000 for a license $2000 gear.  Dipper, puller, line, etc.
Pots- 300 pots about 12,000, a cheap-o workboat 10,000, license, 10-15k, 2 drums of paint $2,600 (yearly)
Definately work for someone for a few YEARS before you set out on your own, with no prior experience.

You have to pay a yearly renewal fee, which ranges from 60 up to about 500$/year.  But if you keep up with the renewal, the lic. is yours.

By your first post, I was wondering if you were from England and how that would work getting a license here in the US?  From the PS at the bottom of your post, I was wondering if you fished something else besides blue crabs?   Huh Huh
