Started out before 0700, headed to estuary near Bayou Vista on I-45.  It was very windy, but the crabs started biting right away.  We got several blues over 6", and even 2 soft-shells, but the big guy was right at 7" today.

Good deal . I'm in the process of repairing a camp on West Bay . Can't wait to finish and start crabbing.

That's awesome, smorr.  How did you catch the soft shell crabs?  I've never caught one.

You did much better than I did this weekend in the same area.  I had a total of six keepers, three on hand lines and three in traps (pots).  I had one trap stolen.  The wind was killer.  I did good in area the first two weekends of the month, but not the last two.  There is alway next weekend.

Luvndbeach,

The salt marsh is located south of Bayou Vista, which is at Highway 6, about two miles north of the causeway.  There are several areas on both sides of the freeway.  Good Luck.

Bayou Vista, Omega Bay area is the area you first see the marshes as you go down I-45 . You can crab anywhere along the feeder road. There are 2 drains running under I-45 . To get to the first one can be had by taking the Bayou Vista / Highway 6 exit . The second one is the exit just past it . I think it's just says Frontage Rd.  There's another good spot at Highland Bayou Park in La Marque . I'm sorry I don't have exit #s . Traveling South on I-45 towards Galveston take the exit for hwy. 519 about 1 mile past the dog track .Stay on the feeder thru the light and the Park entrance is on the right about a 1/4 mile. Clear as mud ??

We crab opposite Demitri's usually. We caught the softshells (female) with the male.  He is "covering" her as she molts and until her shell is hard again.  However, when his part in fertilizing her eggs is over he becomes interested in eating and drags her along to her tasty demise!
