Okay, so I've gone crabbing once before in Rhode Island with a net and a bucket.
I learned everything about cooking and catching from YouTube, and I did it
in a humane way using ice, and I think I handled the crabs well.
Anyways, this year I want to get more into the art!
I plan to do some camping/crabbing and I would like to know some stuff from the pros!

1. Where should I store the crabs, if I want to keep them alive overnight? Is a regular water-filled bucket fine?
2. What are the RI blue crab regulations? How many per person and do I need a license?
How many crabs per person? Since there will be 3 of us, can I simply multiply that number by 3?  Tongue

Actually that seems to be it already...
Thanks a lot!

P.S. I'm new here so if this needs to be moved please do so.

Regulations from the RI DEM web site:

"Blue Crabs: Harvesting by residents only, by crab net, dip net, scoop net, handline and trot line only. It is illegal to harvest crabs from sunset to sunrise. All blue crabs measuring less than the legal minimum size of five inches (5") from spike-end to spike-end must be returned immediately to the water from which taken. No person shall possess, take, or attempt to take more than twenty-five (25) blue crabs from any of the waters of Rhode Island except when taken by a scoop or crab net, trot, or hand line. Measuring: A direct line measured from the end of one spike across the body shell to the end of the opposite spike must be no less than five inches (5")."

No.  The crabs would use up the oxygen in the water and die.  You can keep them alive for days by keeping them cool and damp. Put them in a basket with a wet towel over them.

If you are going to be camping at a site in Rhode Island and plan on eating what you catch at the site, I really wouldn't think that it would be a problem... Just keep an eye out for those DEM guys just in case. Lips Sealed

Where is a good place to catch blue crabs in rhode island? I don't have a boat, or a ton of extra money - just looking for fun and food. An earned meal is always a better meal.
