Need some Pump advice. Have 10 peeler floats. Each one is 8x4 with 4" of water. Been using a 2 horsepower Hayward Super Pump. However it just does not hold up. Been lucky if it lasts a year. Anybody know of any pumps that stand up to the saltwater for a decent period of time??

Thanks,
Joe

I use a Flotec from Home Depot,I think they are 1 1/2 hp,3 to 5 years running one of them year round and one will run 16 to 20 tanks.

Are you running an overflow valve on the pressure line? If not the back pressure is probably killing the pump...I've head only good things about Hayward Pumps...We use 2 hp Teel Pumps, they are great pumps and pumps water like crazy, but very overpriced...

Where do you get your teel pump, how much are they and how long do you get out of em? And no I did not use an over flow valve. Where should it be located

Granger sells the Teel Pumps, Hayward Pumps are good pumps too, But I'm willing to bet the BackPressure is killing your pump...Just put a tee in the end of the pressure line with a Ball Valve in it and flow the water back overboard, or back in the Tank if you have a closed system, the only time we close the valve is when we run 20 tanks..You can almost open the ball valve wideopen and still run 10 tanks..Hope this helps..Gene

Gene,

I'm interested in how exactly you have yours setup. How many GPH are you using to run 20 floats? How do you have your drains setup and how do you have your water going into each float? Also do you use any aspirators? cooling towers? bio filters or anything else like that?? If you could attach a file showing roughly how your operation is set up.

Thanks,
Joe

No filters, Joe..I have a Open System, the tanks drain back into the water..I have 3 2hp teel pumps that supply 65 4x8 tanks..No cooling towers, it's a simple set up,I'll try to post some pic in a few days.I don't have anything running as of yet...

here on the easternshore we use 1 hp sewage eject pump 0ne pump can easily run 30 floats, I know some who have 40 one one pump... lowes also sells a 3/4 hp submersible that will run 10 0r 15 easy  these pumps will save you on your electric since they are only 1 hp not 2,they will also last at least 5 years you can get a 1hp wayne for about 6 or 700,  the 3/4 pump at lowes I think sells for around 300 not to sure

I've got big problems with grass clogging my pumps up when the current is running strong or the wind is blowing. You guys have any trouble with stuff like that? how do those submersible pumps work out with that type of trouble? What type of filters do you use? Whether they are on intake at suction or inline?

Thanks,
Joe

most shedders will frame up a wooden box that is tall enough so that the high tide doesnt go over it, place the pump into it and set it to a pole or at the end of a wharf.   and at each  side on the bottom of the box you place 1/4 inch or smaller wire screen so nothing will enter the pump, but as far as grass goes the sewage pumps are supposed to handel 1 inch "solids" .. I have never had a problem with grass or anything else stopping up the sub pump....i have had shrimp eels and small crabs that have gotten caught in the pump and you see the remains in your sprayers in your foats but the pump is not affected
