After my fishing trip yesterday I was wondering maybe I get fresh clams I dig up and use for bait... but I don't know the rules for it and if you need a permit. Do you need a permit to dig up clams (around Jamaica bay area around North channel/Addobbo bridge)? What are the regulations on clamming? Can I harvest shellfish in Jamaica bay for recreational purposes?

also any one know where I can buy a bushel or burlap bag of surf clams/quahogs cheap!? around queens or in the area?

When you guys use the word clams.....do you mean quahogs,soft shells, razors or surf clams???

got a reply for DEC, NO YOU CANNOT! take any shellfish from ANY UNCERTIFIED AREA, which is basically most of new york city area lol, there are some spots in long island but then you have to find out the rule of each town and get a permit.

Sucks not being able to get free bait!!!

anyone know where i can get a cheap burlap sac or bushel of quahogs?

I just go into Pathmark and buy a dozen chowder clams for 5 bucks. Use 1/2 for soup and the other for bait.

i got some half bushel for $15 around 50 clams good deal.... I salted them, they stay on the hook superbly
