Crabbing Report from Lynnhaven Fishing Pier, Virginia Beach, VA
«
on:
May 14, 2011, 02:10:55 PM »
We have started catching crabs off the
Lynnhaven Fishing Pier
in Virginia Beach, VA. Crabs have started to pot as the water temp gets warmer. I would say the speed of catch at the moment is slow to moderate. Most of the crabs are female and small to medium in size with a few large ones. The size, as with the speed of catch will increase as the water temp does.
I would like to note that we make every best effort to keep our customers apprised of current
Virginia Recreational Crabbing Regulations
(which can be found at
mrc.virginia.gov
) and that we even keep them posted for all to view. We also have a good working relationship with the local
Virginia Marine Resources Commission
Law Enforcement Officers that frequent the Pier.
Please feel free to ask me questions. I certainly will do my best to answer any/all of them.

Well, iffen you girls in Va. want to catch crabs, you need to go to Marland and ask them how. They clean ya'lls plow day in and out. I'd be ashamed to even post such reports as ya'll do. Anybody from NC can shut your pieholes. You ain't caught a bushel of crabs in the whole last year.

Crabbing Report June 4th from Lynnhaven Fishing Pier, Virginia Beach, VA

We've been catching Crabs at the Pier since we opened. Yes, mostly female sponge crabs, but there have been a lot of them and they've been nice-sized. Even throwing back the dark sponges, people are leaving with their coolers and buckets full. It's looking like it's gonna be another good year.

Well... yes. In keeping with VMRC regulations, the lighter sponge crabs ARE legal to keep. We keep VMRC's regulations and sponge color chart posted in two places on the walls for all to see.
Just because you may not agree with keeping lighter sponge crabs, and/or don't like the practice, is no reason to be so negative about others keeping sponge crabs. It IS legal to keep them whether you like it or not. Besides, the latest reports say that females outnumber males in the Chesapeake Bay considerably; so you would be doing more for the population by NOT keeping males.

There shouldn't be a reason in the world to keep sponge crabs.
