fp,
Its been my experience, once their lungs dry out and taking into consideration, their delicate condition....they dont survive. They drown, or die of shock.

We bed ours in hay and cover with a wet newspaper and keep them alive for a week @50 degrees.,if one dies then keep it iced down for a couple of days just like you would a dead fish.

Put a couple wet paper towels in the bottom of a Gladware tray.  Put the softcrabs in the tray (on top of the paper towel) kind'a stacked up with the face at a 45 degree angle.  Put another wet paper towel over them. Keep them in the refrig with the top of the container open a little.  They should be good for 4 days.... After that I use them for bait or give them to the neighbors.  Grin  BTW, ate 2 that I found in the bottom of the freezer the other day.  I vacuum packed them in 2009... Roll Eyes

Sounds like you need a chicken catching net.     strombergschickens.com

If it takes a chicken and a half a day and a half to lay an egg and a half, how long would it take for a squirrel with a wodden leg to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle? Think about it, or not.
