I am visiting the outer banks area in mid-July for vacation. I would love to do some crabbing while I'm there, but I don't know where to go. I will be in corolla between whale head bay and sanders bay. Is there good crabbing there or would I be wasting my time? I also don't mind taking a little drive if its worth it. I would like to crab off land with my little cousins, but I will have access to a little skiff boat too. Any info on good crabbing spots would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Yeah I agree don't like it up north.. to many yankees   laugh laugh laugh laugh but few places to eat and 12 north  only road to get around on..

Surf fishing one morning in Corolla and had a pick up truck run right up the beach and snag all my lines for my surf rods... and pull em all down and then drag them in the sand about 200 yards..... and then he starts yelling at me saying I am in the road.... he claimed that the hard pack along the surf edge is " the road".. and I was in his way.. I told him he could have driven behind me and then asked him how much he had been drinking......   I have never heard of such always drive behind people fishing.... not between them and the water.....unless things are different up there from everwhere else on the OBX..... I packed up and spent about an hour untangling my 4 surf rods. and then getting all the sand out of them and one had the handle break...  never do it again.....Love it from Nag's Head South but Hatteras Island is where it is at.. if you fish and like the water sports... can't beat it down there......... the 7 villages of Hatters Island is way more laid back, slower pace and caters to fishing etc... and of course I heard that Gene guy is a pretty nice fella.....  don't know how he stays in business giving away all his catch either..... laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

I think a lot of places in Avon from what I recall ...

here is a link and I can comment oon the one's I have been too..

basically down on hatteras Island has a few decent places in each of the 7 towns...

http://www.hatterasguide.com/restaurants/P0/

top dog for burgers in waves.. my brother got the tsunami burger 3 1/2 lb patties eat it with the fries in a hlf hour adn they put you rname up on the board and you get a little trophy.. course Ihad to walk his stuffed drunk butt around afterward cause he thought he was gong be sick he was so full   laugh
but good burgers dogs casual lunch etc

Down Under in salvo.. nice place seafood etc

most places in Avon

the Froggy Dog is popular... steak, seafood to sandwhcihes etc... in Avon

Mac Daddy's is also popular in Avon

Dolphin's Den is another popular spot in Avon

I Buxton as follows:

Diamond shoals lot's of good fresh seafoodplatters and also can get crabs and shrimp at their market.... decent prices

Captain's Table ( not galley ) that is the one that Donna scarborough runs her husband rick is a good inshore captain at Teach's if your interested.

Rusty is another place in Buxton  good fusion of asian. mexican and tropical flavors  good food a bit more pricey than the other two but kinda gourment with fresh seafood in many types of styles.. bit tropical kinda cool place..  had softshells there sauteed and awesome..

Frisco:

Quarterdeck.. local hangout and been around 30 some years.. local spots usual give you a true feel and flavor of the place you are visiting...had some drinks and appetizers there enjoyed it..

Hatteras:

Breakwater kinda fancy but very very good  ODen family runs it it is located at Oden's Dock one of the three marinas for fishing fleets in hatteras village...
have a drink and nice dinner and some seats had real nice views and boats etc

Sonny's   man this is the local haunt for a real hearty breakfast and their menu looked good for lunch and dinner mderate prices.. only ate breakfast there but is was a big southern style with grits and al the fixings......  I think it would be a good choice for a very casual lunch or dinner  again another local spot..

if you take the ferry across to Ocracoke island go early and see the island. light hosue and cool museum about black beard.. he was killed/captured there...
andt then hit Howards pub but get there before noon or after 1:30 as it gets packed.. good burgers, wings and about 40 beers on tap form around the world....fun place ....

hope this helps.. gotta rememebr on hatteras Island things are spread out every town is like 5 miles to the next town etc.... but the ride is nice .. also check out the marina's around 4 pm take a rew beers and see the inshore and off shore boats come in and their catches various fish.. kinda neat....

canadian hole on the sound side right on route 12 south is a real big marsha area folsk sailboard and kite board there  cool to watch... and good access for pets to swim and play take my labs there and they love it..got to be on a lead I use a 50 ft check cords so they can run around.....  but don't go on a saturday or sunday  very very crowded....weekdays not too busy at all....if you take your dogs...there

If they'll let you, you can try crabbing from the pier at the Corolla Inn (sound-side). But, I would imagine that it's for guests only. And even if you manage to catch crabs, they'll be small.

The Colington Cafe is a nice place, located near the Wright Brothers Memorial. It's not touristy and they don't advertise... it's reputation is by word of mouth only. Reasonably priced gourmet food. We eat there every year.
