slower on the river - I'm setting my 5 traps at 10' - will try deeper and shallower this weekend and see if it makes a difference

but most a big and taste great

a dozen nice size - tried from 5' to 15' depth and did not seem to matter - starting to get the hang of this

I just started off my dock in a cove in 32207.  Just curious if they're safe to eat.  I've heard diff stories.

Fishing w chicken backs in my traps and pulling 8" regularly.  Any input appreciated!!

I'm a bit south of you - but I would think you are fine to eat them where you are - do you see any floats in your area - if so I guess the pros are fishing that area and it would be fine -
glad you are getting them on chicken - up river where I am fish works better as bait - but what ever works - we got about 20 big jimmies yesterday - did them on the grill with garlic butter - best eats there is

Thanks for the response, Doug.  Just moved into new place and tossed 1 trap w/chick.  Averaging 4 "BRO's" as we called them in LA per day.  Outside of our cove there are many pros working rigs.  I was just curious because of my proximity to downtown.  But most of the traffic is recreational, don't see oil spots or anything in the water.  I ate several a few days ago and my doctor says the tumor is benign

What kinda fish do you use for bait and do you wrap it in sackcloth like we did back home?  my traps are 3x2 with the bait cylinder middle obviously w 2 entries.

glad you can eat them without worry - guess there may be places up Jax way it's too polluted - as for bait I use most anything - lots of mullet since I get out to the inter-coastal most every week - right now getting some bunker (menhaden) castnetting and they work great - I just started pots this past year so still experimenting -catfish is about the only thing that has not worked too well - I put the bunker in a sack but the bigger I just put in after cutting the bellies up -  but most of the time I'm just leaving the pots in the water for a day so not too concerned about the crabs eating all the bait - ran low on bait last week so put a can of cat food in one and still got 2 with a 4 hour soak

good luck with yours - how do you like cooking them up ?? always interested in how folks cook them - grilled with garlic butter is my favorite -

Doug, thanks, man.  Still w just the one small trap w the same chick backs.  Just harvested 4 nice "bro's" on 24 hr soak.  There were two other "bro's" on outside of trap that were eating my chick backs when I pulled it up but they quickly skeedaddled...punks.  Thanks for being helpful to a newbie to the forum.  Your kind are a rare breed.  God Bless and happy pots to ya!!
