Came out from a lifetime under a rock and for the first time cleaned before steaming....what a difference in the ritual of eatin crabs....so easy, and just as good.
now my question is , can i clean and then store the crabs in the fridge for a day or two before steaming

I can't answer your question exactly but if you can't cook them all, just leave the remainder whole & alive in the fridge. Then CBC (clean before cook) and steam them fresh which is best anyway.
I CBC and steam all my crabs at once & finish them off over the span of 5-6 days PROVIDED they don't start smelling. If they start getting a funk out they go. But that is rare around my house. Come to think of it I should follow my own advice and keep a few doz live for 2-3 days and go for round 2 with live crabs. Duh...
Time to rethink the refrigeration situation.

As soon as I clean I freeze or cook. After I cook a couple of days is cool, but like the Moooose says after that it gets funky

Crab in the U.S. needs to be cooked or live in order to be sold or transported. You never saw raw crab for sale anywhere in the U.S. unless they were live.

I think if you check you will see that they have been cooked prior to freezing.

you can definitely buy fresh cleaned uncooked crab. My local Asian markets have the shells removed to display the insides of the female blue crab.
