Hello, my name is Sarah. My Aunt and Uncle have always raved about this crab shack, each time they go to Cocoa Beach, FL, for some time now, and many of those times they have always mentioned that they would like to take me for the experience. Recently, they took me and my family to Ms Apple's Crab Shack. When we got into town I noticed from a distance, a huge, red crab and wonder if that's the place and it was. When I entered the shack, I was in awe of what was in front of me. There was a tank filled with live blue crabs graded from jumbo to standard that were freshly caught from the Indian River. Here, you choose which crabs you want, place in a bucket, and hand it to the employee and they will clean them for free. Then, you can select from several dinners of how you like it prepared or you can take them home where the crabs are ready to be cooked. The owner of the place is a tiny, short, friendly, lady from Thailand, Ms. Apple who greeted us as we entered. The crab shack is a take-out dinner style; however, outside there's a place to dine that offers space for 60 people. They provides tables, bars, chairs, brown paper, smashers, a place for disposal, washroom, outside sink, and music. Many people who come here bring their own condiments--for us it was rice, drinks, and some other things--pretty much like a picnic. So if you're ever passing through Merritt Island, FL stop by here. Be sure to get here early if you plan to dine outside because this place gets packed. Before I finish, here's useful tip that works for me to get rid of that crabby smell from your fingers when you've finished your delicious dinner. Take a lemon and cut it in half. Use the each half per hand and dig your fingers and thumb in the lemon and twist. Be sure to clean under your nails using the lemon and squeeze the excess onto your hands. Then rinse off and wash with soap and water. Now I know why they make an effort to stop by Cocoa Beach-- because the experience at Ms Apples keeps you coming back for more crabs.
I'm glad I could share "Merritt's Island Best Kept Secret" with you. smitten

I've heard of Mrs. Apples but haven't gotten there yet.
Thanks for the report.
There are several crab shacks in that area.

My wife and I spent a week at Cocoa Beach and went looking for Ms. Apples.  We found it, the crabs were great  This was the week of Oct. 24th.  She had a special on large crabs, $28 dozen, we picked out 2 dozen and had her steam them Maryland style for an additional $2.50.  The crabs were large, full and tasted great.  We took some home and had them next day for lunch.  She said crabs were out of local Indian River and Banana River.  Only suggestion is to bring your own eating utensils, such as a knife for prying and extracting.  We also had a dozen steamed shrimp, they were large and tasty.  They don't serve beer or soft drinks, you need to bring your own or go next door to the bait shop where they are very reasonable.  A great deal and great crabs.

That seems odd.   They don't offer anything to drink at all?

Nothing, but they encourage you to bring your own or go across the parking lot to Doc's Bait Shop (slogan You got to have Big Bait to catch Big Fish).  Canned softdrinks were $1 and beer was $2.  We had a cooler with our own.  No inside tables.  Go on-line to msapplescrabshack.com to look at pictures and history of the place.

I've checked it before.   Just seems odd they wouldn't have cans of soda in a cooler or something.
