Can I use 2 pots tied to a bouy(set from a boat) (pots in the cube shaped, 4 entrances with the turtle gaurds on them and cull rings) left to soak for a few hours while I run a trotline?  Or are they only permitted if you own property or are commercially crabbing?  Thanks!

In Maryland, if you are a rec crabber, you can only use two crab pots from your waterfront property.
Crab pots set from vessels are commercial gear only.

Thanks for clearing that up!!:) Not the answer I was hoping to hear, but rules are rules.  Guess it will be the pull traps instead.

Hello all.  I'm new on the forum.  I just bought a half size crab pot with turtle excluders and one 2 5/16" cull ring that's on the side of the pot.  MD regulations says the pot needs two rings in the upper chamber of the pot.  My pot only has one chamber.  Can I just add another ring on the opposite side of the current ring to meet regulations?  Thanks for your help.

If you are a rec and plan to use it in MD, then you need to have waterfront property in MD and place it off your "pier".  MD does not allow commercial pots to be used by recreational crabbers.

A rec using crab pots off a boat is quite simply...a poacher.

I agree, whether you know the laws or you don't, it's illegal.  Someone should say something to the Rec's next time you see them.  Could be a simple "Hey I didn't Know" type of deal.

Could just be someone making a mistake. There are numerous post on here with people asking if they can use two "pots" with a rec license. Don't be so quick to condemn.
