Me, DrummerDave (member) my daughter, niece and son-in-law went out of RBM at about 7am. Dropped a pot between Front St bridge and railroad bridge. Proceeded back to our favorite spot with chickien back, bunker and meadowlands killies. Before my nephew (Drummer Dave) could get his oars in the boat, with a meadowlands killies on a drop line I pulled in a 5 inch beauty. The hits came in nicely on a low tide coming in for about an hour and half - slowed a bit and then picked back up a little. Left our spot about 12ish , proceeded to the pot area, crabbed a little (caught only small and females) gave up and retrieved the pot. Had about 12-14 but only about 3 keepers. Nice hot day on the water and enough of a catch for my liking - total about 45. My nephew cooked them up on pans with oil, garlic butter and seasoning on the grill - everyone couldn't believe how good they were and how meaty they were. Been coming to this spot since my Dad brought me here more than 50 years ago. Still have a great time - will be back once more before this summer ends!

I swear by Meadowlands killies. Like I said in my original post, Drummer Dave didn't even have the oars in and secured when I pulled up one nice 5 incher. If you have alot of killies, its okay, 'cause you will go through them fast. I bait them through the mouth and right through the tail. Otherwise other predators will rip the killie right off the hook. Try it - you'll be pleasantlt surprised at the results!

I have been using kellie rings for years. You just get a nice sized length of wire and put about 5 killies on it by putting it through their mouths and then through their bodies. The major problem, however, is that fish just as snappers pick on the bait as to the crabs and they don't last very long. I do find them better than chicken or bunker but, if the crabs are there, they will bite on anything.

What area you get the Meadowlands killies at. There is so little going on down there I bet they are huge. Crabs as well

I put out killie traps along the weed lines right next to the front street bridge, a crushed up crab in the traps will fill that trap in 15 minutes.

My god they look good! Would ya mind sharin that recipe?
The way i've been doing it - First clean the crabs alive, take the shells off and clean out all the inside guts and lungs. This is a pain at first but if you have a few ppl to do it with it goes pretty quick and its totally worth it in the end. -Place the clean crabs in the foil pans(zev will say throw them right on the grill lol) -Pour some white wine just enough to fill the bottom of the pan -Place a slice of butter in each crab then do your seasoning. -I use Old bay, garlic powder, some basil, italian seasoning. -Place the pans on the grill and let em cook until bright bright red. the more well done the better. You dont want to see any blue. Now you can sit and enjoy and not have to worry about newpapers, crab guts, dunking water etc etc. Again thanks to Zev for the recipe!!
