So I understand it is illegal to run a trotline with out a rec licesne.. With a license 2 150 feet lines are legal.. Do these same laws apply if I am in the water with the line? Walking the shallows in 2-5 feet of water with a submurged line.. Went out yesterday and tried this with a 225 foot line, tied the ends to a small float weighted down with old iron window weights.. I doubt anyone would bother me but could I actually be fined? I might just get the license and run 2 150 ft lines.. Another 2 with a buddy of mine who had a blast.. We got about a half bushel on just the 225 feet.. 600 feet could produce some solid numbers

That's a great catch. I agree that no one would likely bother you, especially walking the line. Maybe on a boat but even then it is done so little in NJ I doubt anyone would be upset. Might just get a pick up that line comment. As for the license, may just be a good idea to send the $2.00 check to NJDEP. Really is worth it for the price. Get a clamming one for $10.00 while your at it. If you are walking a line maybe you can pick up a limit and really add to the feast

The law may stink, but the rule is 150 linear feet and 25 baits per line.

If you got stopped, telling the officer it was only an "experiment" wouldn't have gotten you out of a fine. And what if the "experiment" really went well? "But officer, it was only an experiment"

Floating inner tube and bushel basket tied to my waist may have given it away
