Buzzard,
The only time I see that clear jelly like substance come from a crab is when it is a papershell. I remember a trip last year where I had one in the basket the first run down the line and traps. When I started culling I noticed the substance was everywhere. Another crab crushed his claw and another claw went into his shell. The crab was all but dead. When I was able to get him out it was dropping out. Maybe bc the muscle and fat tissue (meat) hadn't developed. Hence, when papershells are cooked they are full of water. I could be completely wrong here. Just my theory.
Andrew
P.S. Recycle the paper. Throw them back.

Isn't the clear gray gel what all the hubbub with Barry Bonds was about?

I think it's Grecian Formula, especially designed for older male crabs that want to pick up younger female crabs.
