How long do wooden shedding box usually last? Do yall line it with something to extend life? For example, shower wall/floor material available at the Hardware store. Or is that more work then needed. I am going to guess most of ya'll use something other then just wooden boxes )on the professional level) such as plastic liner, fiberglass, or even concrete.
I thought about making a box with the wood as the mold" and just fiberglass over that, but not sure how cheap i be able to get the fiberglass material now days. (3x8 ft with a 10-12in walls and the corners cut off at 45 degree angle to promote water flow)

Thats sounds way to FANCY....Just get a 3/4" sheet of Salt treated Plywood and 24 feet of 2x10 Treated, you don't need nothing but BUTT Joints..As far as water flow........Just pump lots of water to the box...And use 2 drains 1 1/2"-2" and that will also help with circulating the water in the box...Hope this helps...Use good galvanized nails, air gun nails don't last long...

I am planning on only doing one, don't think the other half will let me play with more then that. so something that a bit work won't bother me and I love projects. But it appears stock tank may be the way to go! Didn't even think to look at those.

I had them just sitting on the pier but a few times a year "spring tides" put water over the top of them. Building the tables worked out great. Much easier to work too.

Are you gonna run a open system (pump raw water) or a closed system (filtered water recirculated)?

Any idae what the foot print dimensions are? Looks like it has slant walls from all the pics I seen of them and couldn't get a good feel of it (trying to calc usable sq ft)

The frame for a single tank is 32x53 (outside). The tank is supported by is lip.

The older tank had a bulkhead fitting moulded in. The problem with that is if the pump stops, the crabs die. The tank doesn't drain completely.

The new tanks do not have a bulkhead fitting so I had to rig up a drain. It had the same problem. You can not drain all the water.

The fix to the drain was to put bulkhead fittings in the bottom of the tank. duh....  But I still had dead crabs if the water shut off. RD gave me the fix for that. Drill a hole in the bottom of the veritcal drain. If the pump shuts off, the water will drain down to a 1/4 inch. That keeps the crabs wet and alive. You can remove the overflow to drain the tank completely for cleaning. |

Big problem I have not solved is pumps. A commercial self priming pump is to big for me. So I rely on a sump pump from Lowes. When using only one tank I switch to a mag-drive aquarium pump.

TIP.  Drill the hole for the bulkhead fitting from the bottom of the tank or you will probably drill thru the tank support ribs. |

Tip. If I am running only one tank the crabs can not be seperated by sign. I use cut down 5 gallon buckets with holes to seperate the buster from the not so rank crabs.  Just set the bucket in the tank near the input stream. |

Don't know dp thanks... I've pretty much settled on the Lowes pump. They last about a season and a half running constantly. And give me just the right amount of water. 70 bucks for 3 years use is tough to beat. |

And give me just the right amount of water. 70 bucks for 3 years use is tough to beat. Unless a motor problem this type of pump is easy to rebuild. We use air driven one at work all the time. |

In a 4x10 shedder you can put about 500 peelers. |

ahh that explains why went with the smaller size tanks. If i can find a longer tank like that while maintaining the same same depth , I'll go with that else it just be cheaper if I just build a wooden tank.
