What works best for me is a nice burner with a 62qt pot. Max Execution.

Throw some Jim Beam on 'em. That'll numb 'em pretty good.
or, rip the top shell off like you were going to clean them before you cook them. Instant numbification.

electrocution dumbs them to death. a close friend uses that method to kill instantly before steaming and says it;s the easiest way to steam and keep the claws and legs on. less time than picking or chilling once you get set up.

If seen some of the better crab houses use this method . The one thing they all seem to had in common is a RED LIGHT BULB lit during the minute or so it take to ahh... mellow them out you don't want to touch the water or dump more crabs in when it is on !

I think LGC's son set that execution rig up... Not exactly a UL approved piece of equipment... More like use @ your own risk...

you still have to fill something up with the same amount of water that you would for icing down....icing only takes minutes you may save like 5 minutes...hope it dosent take that long to get the cord and prod out...lol might save money on ice..thats the only positive i can see in electric.

I have been trying the electrocution method since 2009. I am still waiting for Lightning to hit that [dang] kite. I think Ole Ben had a secret he didn't tell us about.

Back in the day.... We just pulled the wire fence (electric) into a ac outlet... Never kilt no one but then again we didn't have many critters around. My daughter said she saw a fox get in the wire. Said it just jumped all around and then just layed there.

I have a refigerator I use only for crabs.I cool them down in there and if I am not using the crabs till the next day I turn it to the warmest setting and cook the next day.You just have to make sure there are no dead ones which takes some time.I have never heard of electrocuting them.

Quite a few crab houses shock them. There was even a fellow making shockers and selling them for awhile. I think he finally realized that the liability issues could be serious if someone was electrocuted! I repaired one of his shockers for a local crab house and made a schematic of the setup. Even with a couple of safety switches you still needed to pay attention. I'm sure that there are plenty of crab houses that don't bother to sort the crabs before they shock.
