You know you would probally be better off to go ahead and have two .....if your running a short line inn any amount of depth, you will have alot of arch in your line and need to move it up for a guest....or set it up for a guest now and install the dipper Wink

Hey Merrill..like the hook up....but using the large "c" clamp to hold it in place....do you use any type of "padding ' when you place it on the gunwale?...if you "torque" the clamp too much,doesnt it cause your prop stick to move?  Undecided Smiley..or damage the gunwale itself?  Undecided Smiley

I have a bunch of bunk carpeting to add to the rig.  You're right, it would leave rub marks if I left it like that.

It actually takes hardly any force to keep it in place.  After all, Stevo's old Matress rig just hangs there under it's own weight without any clamps.  Version prop.2 will be alittle nicer for sure!!! Grin

I've also tied a teather to the clamp and PVC part in case too many grogs are consumed and it somehow falls overboard!!!  Shocked

Merrill..I see where you have 2x4 's to use as your "base" for your runner....Stevo had his runner hooked up with PVC that "clamped" under the overhang on the inside of his gunwale....what we would call the "drip" edge in construction....could you not think of a way to do the same thing?..it would save you time and effort...Stevos neighbor is a plmber by trade and the hookup he had was quite ingeinous  Wink Smiley

Red Lion crabber bought Stevo's old skiff.  Stevo had built a prop stick out of pvc and it looks like it could be placed anywhere on the side of the boat without any mounts.  Send RLC  (or Stevo) a b-mail and I'm sure he would post pics for you and give you his feedback on it.  I know he just used it on Sunday at the pax with no complaints.  With a quick glance it looks like a double prop stick with a piece of pvc connecting the two together to prevent it from sliding down the side of the boat.  Hard to explain but seeing it would clear up my bad explaination. Hope this helps.

Thanks CD.  Summertop pointed me in the direction of the wye party pics. 
Stevo's is a good design, but this P.O.S. didn't cost me anything extra to build.

I think I'll run it and allow necessity (and possibly failure) to give birth to invention.  At this point it's more about dipping some crabs and having the flexibility to experiment with its placement. 

In case you couldn't tell, I like discussing gadgets, gear and techniques with you guys...this forum is great for that.

Heres a couple pictures of my trotline hook that i put on my tracker 14 ft
now its not made out of pvc only because i didnt have any laying around the house [;
I used a paint roller
some hose holders
a clamp
and a couple peices of wood i had lying around the yard
im only 14
i needed something temporary
that i could put on and off
and this really works well

Pixels says he's a big guy, so I'm guessing when he runs his line, that stick is way over, and the square is so it doesn't jump out Huh Grin  Hard to toss that line off in an emergency, like when some a-hole waterskier cuts across your line.   Undecided
