I created one using 1/2" PVC that snaps into place inside my collapsible ladder on my sea ray (i can't bring myself to drill any holes).  Anyway, i'll bring in a picture tomorrow.

being an engineer, it had to drawn. the main roller is 1 1/2 inch, sides are 1 inch plastic on a perferated angle iron held to boat transon with c clamps. I used a lot of stainless

Mine.  Custom made, but inexpensive.  Mostly parts left over from plumbing projects.  Sorry about the trailer guides in some pictures.  They are not part of the roller, although it may look like it.

Any ideas on clamping the prop stick mount to a Carolina Skiff gunwale?

I'd like to be able to clamp it anywhere along the side to test out the ideal mounting location.

This is my new one.  Its not totally finsihed here, in terms of how it mounts to the boat.  It just slips on and off without any bolts or screws.  Will take some pic of that later that may help you Domino

Domino,
The best location for my skiff was just behind the first bolt on the rear starboard railing. My neighbor custom made mine out of Stainless.....he also made a mount out of stainless as well. It is bolted to my boat, but I can remove the propstick without having to remove the mount. When I'm ready to crab, I slide it in and tighten it up. If anyone is interested, I'll take some pics of it.

Yeah, please post some pics...

The plan is to rig something temporarily to figure it out this season...then begin fabrication of a permanent mounting scheme.  Along the lines of what you have sounds nice.

My problem with mounting it too far back is that the side console will be in the way for guest dippers.  Good for me, but bad for them.  Grin  I'll be dipping al the crabs when the line runs heavy with 8 inchers!!!  Smiley

Thats a tough one.. not much to work with.  Maybe something like those removable rod holders, where you mount the base and the other piece slides out.  But on a larger scale.

I can rotate it forward or reverse....and by doing that, bring the line higher or lower to the water. When the stick as all the way down, it is about 2"'s off the water.

Thats the key.....adjustable.....if the line is to tight, you can just lower the stick or roller......
something to think about for you Domino....raising would move the dipper forward of the boat...and out of the way of the console  Smiley

Yeah..adjustable up and down...and down the length of the boat if possible.  Figure putting the prop stick at or near the console will ensure the guest can always dip the crabs.  Plus, figure there's 18' from the console to the tip of the bow is plenty of room to move up to dip on a shallow running line.

The guy that had my boat before me had 2 rod holders on each side.  One was almost at the transom, and the other was near the beam, adjacent to the console.  He made up 2 prop sticks:  the one aft was for him by himself, the one forward was for a guest dipper.  each one fit into the appropriate rod holder as we have pictures of here.  Not sure if you can install rod holder with your gunwale situation?

Hey Domino,
I cant remember, do you have a rear deck.  If not, I purchased for my skiff two downrigger plates that Cskiff makes.  They are heavy duty pieces of fiberglass that fit in the stern corners.  I got one port and one starboard.  instead of downriggers, I mounted two flushmount rod holders in each corner ( 2 facing aft, 1 angled port, 1 angled stbd)  Its so nice havin the rod holders back there for fishing and makes a great place to slide a prop stick into.  Ill post a pic when i get home tonight to show you what i mean.  Of course if you have a rear deck, its kind of a mute point.

Here's a sketch of one idea...it's similar to ChrisS's, but with one more bend in the stick.

Still have to figure out where to put it and then you're stuck with it there.

Yep.....make it adjustable.....you don't have to, but I would run the flap with snoods.....and if it were mine, I would have a roller put on that stick.
