looking to go to captree with my 7yr. old daughter.  not a fisherman , just a dad. best way to catch some crabs, seems to be a net.  how long  net will do?  any bait?  tell males from females?  good time to go?   thanks for any help, just trying to have some fun.

You can use box traps. Get the ones that have two doors that open. They rarely get tangled. You can use chicken legs, thighs, backs, necks. Whatever is cheapest. If you are going to also use a line ( rope with a chicken leg tied to the end) I would also get a net so you can scoop the crab up. Your best bet is probably to start with the traps and watch how others do it with the line. I take my kids at least 2x a week. We just went today. Only got 5. That is the downside, you can be crabbing all day and get nothing. Three weeks ago we got 44 in 3 hours. Good luck and post on here how you did. Oh, google "photos of male and female blue claw crabs" Just one way to know, males have blue claws and females have red tips on their claws. Hope this helps.

It's been a long time since I've been to Captree, but IIRC that pier stands pretty tall.  If you want to use a net you might need a long one.  But check it out because I was there last as a child and it just might have looked tall...  Good luck! -Paul
