just got a phone call on my house phone (i very seldom answer it but was curious). a lady asked to speak to my wife and i told her she was unavailable, could i ask what the call was pretaining to. she said she was calling for the MD. dnr and was doing a survey on MD. blue crabs. i told her i was a commercial crabber and asked if i could do the survey. she said the survey was for recreational crabbers and she was instructed to only do the survey with my wife (rec. crabber). i asked her to please call back another time. she politely thanked me for my time and said she would. Has anyone else gotten a call like this??? is this how there going to check how many crabs recreational crabbers take???

No calls here.  Maybe they're just calling to get a sample of how many people (recs) actually use the volunteer online service to report their catch.

They called the other day for Old Grouchy - he was on the phone for awhile.

I can only stress on so many things in one day - looks like you're not making the list. Tomorrow isn't looking so hot, either.

Last I heard Maryland DNR is still using an estimate of 8% for the rec catch. Other scientific organizations are using as high as 35%.

When the Maryland DNR comes up with a more exact percentage, look for it to eat into the 25% they say they are holding back from commercial crabbers for latent effort.

Yeah, forget about getting a piece of the pie... if you're lucky you'll get to lick the fork along with the 150,000 other rec crabbers.  One bushel a year should do ya anyway right?

Something to think about..........if everyone surveyed low balls their catch numbers and the DNR does go to "quotes" or "catch shares" (as some people believe) the recreational share of the Blue Crab allotment will be low............ Just saying!  Wink

I got a call tonight just after my wife handed me the mail w Dreampixel's Wye River video oddly enough.  Answered a bunch of questions mostly about trips in Oct.  I asked the lady if it was possible to get a summary of the info collected.  She told me they anticipate the results being available on Old Dominion University's website under the research of Dr. Ashford.
