Little guy and I with our NEW CAPT MOOSE TRAPS, caught a half a dozen over an hour paddling the canoe. Big ones too. Saw someone from shore using a chix string he had a handfull of crab too.    Not one female.

Great day

that's a great idea - using those traps with a little canoe Smiley  how old was your little one?  I just picked up some traps as well from him and was curious if my 4 year old would be able to handle 'em.

Thanks guys, hes 8 years old. I wont take a little guy in the canoe unless he can swim. Even with the pdf. Ive had some fishing close disaters in the past. They panic if they cant swim. I also have a 4 year old as well. he starts swimming lessons next year

   just my opinion

Way to go!    Please remember to put the date in the subject line of your crabbing reports.

Check out Hathaway Road in Wareham (Runs parrelell to the Weweantic River) several homes with for sale signs.

I am glad that we are starting to get some reports from the more western rivers on Southcoast Massachusetts.  Crabbing activity is still at minimal levels and other than some locations in Wareham, very little activity takes place.  I would bet that the majority of crabs die of old age.

Don't be afraid to work the shallow rivers with a flat bottom boat or a canoe with a shallow draft.....................I have seen tons of crabs over the years.  The use of the topless traps that are common down South are just starting to take off up North.  I know they work well as my Kids and Grandchildren have been using them for years with great success.  Don't waste your time with the triangle or pyramid style traps.

I always used the large traps and paid the Commonwealth the fifty bucks for the Recreational Lobster permit......that way I could take both species.

Go out there and get your share !!!  We are getting toward the end of the season.  What is better than fresh crabs and lobster while watching the Pat's on TV.
