i know catching crab and getting them in a pot cooking as soon as possible is the best way. but what is the best way to keep them (health wise for us) for a givin period of time. say i catch a bushel this weekend and end up not being able to cook them right away. is there a way to keep them to cok at a later time?

start with a wet towel , keep them cool . and they need to have air.

well i kinda figured that but what if i want crab and don't feel like going out to get them that day? can i freeze uncooked crab and cook at a later date?

I have been freezing my extra uncooked crabs with zero issues.  The only thing is, I've cleaned them which is probably necessary in your case.

If you put the crabs in a large cooler with an air filter, change the water daily, and feed them they should stay alive.

dosent kill mine....thanks to some tips from certain people...lol  just shed a whale last night Grin has been in there for over a week..

I'm with you Jack.  Putting them in an icechest with water will kill them.  What happens is their pee (mainly ammonia) will kill them even though you have an aerator or not.  Only a filtration bed will work.  One crab is OK but a bushel will not work.

Frozen crabs suck. they taste stale and nasty. maybe i'm just spoiled but fresh is the only way. you can freeze the meat ok as long as it's vacum packed but if not it just don't taste as fresh.

Maybe it's just the relative newbie in me, but I don't mind them.  Never had any taste stale or nasty.  They all still taste plenty fresh, but again, I clean em.
