This year was the first time that I had been crabbing (Rhode Island salt ponds) since 1967. I can't tell how this season measures up against recent years. It seemed to me that they were more abundant and more aggresive in June than they were in August, and in general, it never seemed to be a banner year. I am taking a poll to see how this season has been for everyone.

I finally got serious about crabbing. Even tho I've done it a few times over the years i would still consider myself a noobie. I've got lots to learn. Started changing up locations and its helped alot. I switched over to a trotline instead of traps and I really like it. Probably go back to the traps soon though may even take them along this weekend when i go. The most keepers I've caught in one day is only 36 but I also only stay out for about 4 hours or so. Hopefully this weekend will be the weekend I fill a basket.
Its been good for me personally but I have nothing historically to compare it too.

Maybe you have more than a rec license but wouldn't the max allowable amount be 38 bushels for 19 trips. 2 bushels a day for a boat.

I'm 62 and I live 4 hours away from the Wye, any year I get to crab with my son and some friends I've introduced to crabbing over the last 38 years is a great season. I don't measure it by the bushels we caught, I measure it by the fun we've had trying to catch them.

Let me know when you start nailin 'em. FYI this season for me has flat out sucked. Of course I haven't been nearly as much as last year. The girl I'm seein now though likes running the boat, and she's good at it, so maybe we'll start goin more often. I'm hoping to get a few 20+ bushel days of sooks this fall.

My buddy called the other day from the boat yard. He said he was there sanding and coating the hull, and his wife was right beside him helping. Do you know what I told him his wife is? ............. a keeper
True story.
