Some of the best crabbing I have ever done was in less than 4 feet of water along the south Florida coast wading the grass beds. Same here in Texas either dropping off piers with folders or even pots. Always had better luck in the shallow grass beds.

John, did you use drop nets or traps in Florida?  I am from Galveston, lived in Kerrville for a long time and now here in Florida, but am having no luck at all crabbing here.  We use to scoop them up without anything in Galveston, but not here, or not now?

Used both, folders and pots. Used had nets wading the grass flats. Find a nice grass to sand area that you can wade in and use a good hand net. Off of any bridges that have cat walks or piers and use the umbrella traps or folders. Chicken necks or cat fish heads always worked for me. You can make some smaller crab pots that you can drop off on piers and then fish while they soak. Crabbing has slowed down alot because of no rain run off into the bays and the salinity is way to high so the crabs are out deeper. If it ever rains again it'll pick up. There are a couple of videos on youtube that show how to make a half size crab pot by some guy over near Galveston in some back water channels. I'll try to fing them and post the link.
