Crab Heads.  I covet your input.  I am considering spending about $600 + tip to go on my first crab outing with this outfit - http://www.chesapeakebay-fishing.com/crabbing.html.  It's run by Capt. Marion Kaufman, and to be honest, I don't know anything about them other than that they responded to my e-mail.  The company is Jade Lady Charters.  They are headquartered in Denton, MD.

Has anyone heard of this outfit?  Any gossip either way?  Am I being robbed if I pay that much (keep in mind I have 100% enthusiasm and 0% experience).  I really just want to get out and catch the s*** out of those crabz.

Also, the charter is for October 2 - is this too late for crabz?  Will they be gone by then?  Has the recent cool weather screwed the pooch in the bay?

Thank you in advance for any feedback / advice.  If you have had a great experience with or know of someone who gives sweet charter - please let me know!  I'd love to get out before the end of this season.  I'm a complete noobie / chicken necker / land lubber, but I will eat a crab soon as look at one.

THANKS BE TO YOU.

IMHO  I'd go with Chuck Schnaitman.  I've been out with him a number of times and I can't say enough good things about him and his operation.

Guys.  I appreciate the responses.  Are you saying that Schnaitman's is better than Kaufman or that nobody has ever heard of Kaufman?  Also, any idea about pricing for half or full day for Schnaitman?  Thanks in advance.

Marion has been running charters longer then Chuck. Both crab and fishing.

is $600 + tip too much? you'll have to answer. is for me, Price is pretty standard for six pack charters. You might want to take someone whos dipped before if you want to put crabs on the boat. As far as too late.....we'll see. goodluck

Crab charter? I have never heard of such a thing but that'd be a good way to learn the art and of good productive locations. Pretty neat idea.

hopefully you are gonna pull about 300 pots on the charter to get enough to make it worth 600 bucks !!!!!
