New to crabbing, whats the difference between blue crabs, hard shell crabs, soft shell crabs, and peeler crabs?

Since i'm been with the BCA everyone keeps telling me "there are no crabs" in Virginia.

Im new to Virginia too, so i can neither confirm nor deny those allegations, as i have never attempted to crab in Virginia waters
