Caught this today..Had part of the point tip broken off, she measured 7 5/8" but would have probably been 7 3/4" if not for the broken tip..

Did they change the law on size requirements? Thought it was originally can't keep females over 6 3/4" from mid Sept/ Oct 1st thru April  Anyway....you caught it off a string  Oh.....I wonder if she's defending that Coke

Another crazy NC Law.......we can keep sponge crabs, but have to release the females over 6 3/4"................BTW, once the crab got all COKED UP.............I released it unharmed..

I've had to return a few to the drink recently. If doing OK all females are returned but it hurts to send the biggest ones back when your mouth is watering..

IMO it's what happens when we leave it up to biologist who very seldom see the water and leave it up to field technicians. Not just in this state but in all aspects of the fishery nationwide. TBH save toss back one sponge crab, saving innocent babies......toss back a season of sponges, saving and protecting the Blue Crab Fisherey for decades.

Glad your getting crab. Wind has been blowing for 5 days on the PS. They're getting 40 bucks (retail) a bushel on the Highway up here.

Back in the olden days the VIRGINIAN GETELMAN 90' Steel Trawler hit a body of the Girls up off of Va. Draggin for Flounder off the beach. Stopped the frickin boat in its tracks............... Took them a day to clear the nets. they got 10 cents / pound from Fass Brothers. Deck loaded with layers of ice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
