HOPE YOU MADE OUT BETTER THAN I DID. WENT OUT EARLY SATURDAY( NEW LONDON AND OLD LYME, CT) AND NOT ONE THING TO SHOW FOR IT  BUT I HAD FUN BEING ALL ALONE AND NO ONE TO BOTHER ME.  HOPE YOU CAUGHT SOME.

            What is the water temperture up there in Rhode Island, and New Britian, Ct.     The warmer the water temperture gets the more likely crabs are going to show up. They normally bury down here when the water temperture gets to cold.

KAJUN THE WATER IS ABOUT 75F.

                  At 75% temperatures this should be plenty warm enough for the crabs to be moving around. I know down south when the temps. cool off the crabs bury, and you would swear that there are no crabs around. After a little warm up and they are all over again. I hope your crabs picks up soon, before all them cold fronts start coming down. Best of luck and I hope your crabs get very plentiful.

curious and new to crabin' and was wondering if narrow river in narragansett, rhode island is edible harvesting...

It just seems curious that in Massachusetts, just a short ride away we are having a great season.  Water temps. are high and there is crab everywhere.  Everyone, no matter what method is used is getting good crab.

Could you be in an area were the water salinity is too high..........look for the brackish water.

The Weweantic in Marion/Wareham is only a mile or so in from Buzzards Bay and there are plenty of crab.

I have heard that there is some crab being taken in the Saconnet, just up from the Rt. 24 bridge.

Hey SP,
     If you're in NE, where this thread is talking about, it'll probably be late May at the earliest for you to go crabbing. Also, the CrabHawk is illegal in certain states. Check you local regs before heading out. Good luck if you go.

5 Years after your post, but others may find useful.. I have found plentiful blue crabs in the Palmer River June-Sept, just north of the rt 114 bridge Warren/Barrington line (N of the American Tourister Factory outlet.)  You will be all alone.  Paddle in a skiff laying on the bow or walk the waters at low tide. Look for sandy clearings (circles) amongst the 1 ft thick 'seaweed' kind of creepy on your ankles.....  There will be males visible in these areas fending off other males (prime mating real estate). Use a bamboo pole in front and a net behind.  Great hunting fun.  Parking can be a challenge.
