Oceanic 10/8/11

Third trip to the Sink this year, third marina, third part of the river, and third great trip. Hit Oceanic with my brother for the 1st time yesterday at a very late start time of 11am+++. Ran 4 drop-lines and 4 traps with chicken all day . 1st drop NE of bridge (thank you to all those who continue to share their wisdom here) and bam right on them with 2xs off the hop almost exclusively on the drops. Spot died down, made a move this time dropping the traps tied off to pool noodle floats on the way (thanks again to the wise). Pretty much repeated this method hitting spots for 20-30mins, moving, picking up the traps, dropping them back, and setting on a new spot all day. Worked out really well.... conservative guess we caught 75++ crabs from 11:30am-2:30pm with about 60/40 female to male ratio and only maybe 2 crabs being under legal size. We only kept about 2 dozen drawing line at 5in min for males and 6in for females.....had 6.75in best for both on the day. Bad news is from 2:30-4:00 we pretty much got skunked as we moved closer to the bridge......but life is learning. Think if weather holds might try one more trip this year and try like [Sam Hill] to be at the marina at opening.
