ON the Wye today and about time it’s been over two years since my last W/R crabbin’ but hey mid October is better than never. So here’s how the day played out. At the ramp at sun up with the new crab boat, 30 traps and 600’ trot line all with CN. We set out the line just on the outside of the WR bridge in 9.5’ – 11.5’ dropped the traps everywhere from 6’-13’ started all on mud. No real killer runs but we were dippin’ 3-7 on the line all day and 1-5 on the traps, best depth seemed to be 10’-11’ pulled all the traps and ran them out to near Shaw bay area re-set them in 9’-12’ in grass pulled six real nice heavy J’s at 11’ ended our day at 2:00 with 40 nice Wye Jimmy’s from 6-7.5” two small throw backs, ½ a Doz. Big sooks went back in the water and a cat that we caught 7 time in a trap..ok so maybe a couple different cats but they just kept coming back. Also trapped a horseshoe crab this late and still seeing a few jellies tells me the water still a little warm for the critters to hang around. And if you’re wondering the parking lot was full with a few parked on the road by 7:30 on a weekday but I guess as long as everybody pulling ½ to ¾ as we seemed to see then October is still good to go at the Wye. Crab on!
SORRY I was so happy to be pulling crabs again I forgot to get any pics till they were red!
