Crabbed the Navesink today. First tried the mouth of McClees creek very slow. Only about six. All nice. Moved to east of the oceanic bridge outside the mouth of Clay Pot creek. Picked up 7.. Grand total of 13 nice crabs. Burned way too much time up the river. Probably would have done better if we went to the oceanic bridge first. Nice day on the water. Nothing like the lated run last year.

Thanks everyone, miscounted, we managed to get 16.. Water still hasn't turned over, so I was hoping for the better.. Maybe all the rain shut things down early. All
Males today, ecxcept one female.. Not one undersized crab..

These 40 degree cold nights are going to end it all soon.  Water temp was in mid 60's 10 days ago and steadily dropping.

Trying to get one more in myself.  Does not look like more than a few week are left in the Navesink.

I know Red Bank in the bridges area never recovered from Irene the first week of Sept.  And those RB crabs all moved east weeks ago.   So if Oceanic goes---- that's all she wrote for 2011.  Sad(

Gotta find that hole. Smiley

Not all channels hold crabs. The water cools deep too and they get lethargic there too.  Sad(

I think that all th rain has cooled the up river spots and reduced the salinity down river. From my experience, the oceanic gives up a lot of females because it is saltier, last trip it was all males, which is unusual.. That's why I usually run farther up the riiver. Totally different story this year.. I think up the river/red bank is toast for 2011. Agree that oceanic area is the last shot for 2011
