Yesterday was the first Saturday morning since the second weekend in June that I didn't have to get up early to chase crabs or other wildlife. It was too weird for my system apparently as I was wide awake at 4:30. Knowing we were supposed to have rain until later in the day I convinced myself that we really didn't need to go hunting at first light.
I took my son to a farm that usually has a ton of squirrels and put him out at the top of the hill and told him to work his way to the bottom and I would be waiting there for him. He got down to me at record speed, not seeing any squirrels and realizing that the weather was not conducive to squirrel hunting. I think he is finally starting to realize that while any chance that you get to hunt is a good one, sometimes it's just better to stay out of the weather and stay home where it's warm.
After getting stuck and having to have my other half come get me and take me to the granary to get a tractor to pull my truck out, we headed to another farm to deer hunt for the evening. It was to be my son's first time climbing a tree with a climbing stand and he couldn't wait.
After getting in one of my favorite areas, I chose two trees that were right next to each other that were both nice and straight. We settled in around 3:30 in heavy snow. We didn't see our first deer until almost 5:10. There is a property line about 20 yards from where we were hunting and we can not shoot across the line. Where were the deer?? Of course, we watched around 15 does mill around on the neighbor's property for over an hour, finally, three of the them decided that they would cross the line and my son was able to get get a shot on them just before they got out of sight and he made it count.....the second time Roll Eyes. He claimed that the first shot was just to give them fair warning. He is now hooked on climbing.

Nice job. I'm still looking for my first deer.  Wink When I was younger I would go out rain or wind. I have learned that it is better some time to just wait for the next time to go out.  laugh
