i did clean it with coppersolv and ran a brush down it...usually do it every 30 shots or so...I think it may just be me...or too many shots in a row and the barrel gettin hot Sad  Ill shoot it one more time before season and see what happens.

When shooting it in - shoot one shot - and take a break - wait five or ten minutes or more for the barrel to cool down - it is the very first shot you want on the money - if it is there - none others will be needed - many many things happen when a gun begins to heat up.

I have already taken only 1 round to the range - shoot it and reload it right there and shoot it again - this removed many of case questions - neck sizing only is also a help. I never got the point of laying the round in V blocks to see if the bullet was perfectly centered in the neck - there is a whole lot more you can do before getting to that point.

The .009 group was sent to 3 different places to be measured - each place got a different measurement - when .009 was take as the final answer the shooter was asked "How do you feel about your group not being called perfect?"

His reply was "If it had been perfect, I would have nothing else to try for."

This article "Perfect Group" was printed in 73 or 74 in magazines of the time. It was a very interesting read. The shooter was running out of time to get 5 shots off and the backup target came loose. It could have all been luck to get that small, but no one can disclaim it has been done.

If I am not mistaken, he did the .009 group with a 222. It was a 3 man team, one shooter, but two others involved with firearm and ammo. 1 Fellow I think was a gunsmith and built the rifle the other was the re-loader for his ammo.

I also believe they were using Match Nickel cases - the actual bullet I can not remember - some where in my piles of history I think I kept the article but where it is - only God and the dust beside it know where.

I do remember everything was precision built to the point after sizing the case the neck was measured so the bullet would seat and align exactly to the throat of the rifle. Each round before fired was rolled in V blocks with an indicator on the bullet to assure this.

This article both inspired me and discouraged me at the same time. I was inspired by the precision used but discouraged by cost of becoming competitive.

For many many years after reading it I did the best I could with the economics at hand. I also came to the understanding about myself it was not the hunt that interested me any longer it was the shooting.

I did consider long range - mountain to mountain hunting for deer but never seemed to pursue it. I found it much more to my liking to varmint hunt. Then the buildings began popping everywhere I did my varmint hunting to the point I considered it unsafe to continue.

Pretty much to date I have not fired a rifle in years. That interest was replaced by moving targets, sporting clays an skeet.

Today since the death of my best shooting buddy I have not even been doing that, however the urge is still there - the skills might be a bit relaxed - but the urge is still there. I am ready when Y'all are to hone up - there has been chatter but nothing has ever risen from that chatter - just letting ya know - I game if and when you'ins are.

I have a place we can shoot in northern Balto Co. All we would need to do is bring targets and clean up our empties when we are done. There are 5 traps that we can use. There is a 300 yard range about 3/4 mile away from there that we can use anytime as well.

I picked up one of the 11-87's in full camo at Dicks on black friday, on sale with rebates for $500. They may still be offering the $175 in rebates if you want to check it out.
