I just read a post where a fella was looking for one last 9" crab before he throws in the towel....

Can somebody please post a photo of a 9" crab laying next to a ruler? I've caught six or seven 8-8 1/8" crabs, and that's my biggest ever....all on the Corsica.

Is there such thing as a 10" Maryland Blue crab? I don't really believe many 9" are around, but since I'm asking, I'd like to see anything over 9"!....Oh, and what year was it harvested!

Chris
I had a crab that was just a tick over 10" several years ago on the Bush. I didn't get it mounted because I really didn't think it was anything that special. I know better now....It is just short of 10" now. I can only come up with pics of the shell.

Nice pic of a hammer.  When you look at the middle of that shell and see that huge hump, you know it is a big one.  I would be interested in seeing a profile pic.  I bet he was 3"+from top to bottom.   NICE! Cool

He was a beast. I thought it was a turtle in the trap when I was pulling it. I would say the height measurment would have been around 2 1/2". If I ever catch a similar one, it will be preserved in its entirety. Smiley

I have seen 2 -- 9" crabs from the Wye in years past. About 6-7 years ago, my wife pulled a trap with a 9 1/8" monster in it. We were on vacation and drove up from Cambridge to hit the Wye! We didn't photograph it or mount it, just ate it. It wasn't too far from the ramp! About a year later, Ken and I took a 12 year old neighbor of his crabbing and he pulled a trap with a 9" crab, out near Lloyds. Have not seen a 9"er in several years though. It is so great to see a crab that barely fits in the trap or his points almost touch both sides! Next time, I'm getting it mounted!

I have never caught a 9er myself. My personal best was a healthy 7.5inch, but being that I work at a local crabhouse here in maryland, and we get our crabs from local watermen, I have a few pictures of some monsters we received in a few of our bushels shortly after Irene hit this year.
