Md youth deer hunt 2011
«

November 14, 2011, 02:22:47 PM »
After two weeks of preparation, I thought we had a lock on getting a young man from Washington County his first deer. On our way to the farm that this young man was going to hunt, one of our prey decided to sacrifice itself to my bumper destroying the grill in the process.
During the early morning, our guest hunter was interupted by an adult carring a gun and obviously not a youth. I will do some research and find out who this nit wit was and let him know what I think of his decision to hunt illegally during during a youth hunt. Then in the afternoon, we bumped about 15-20 deer going in to get him set up. The young man was able to take a shot on a doe later that evening but wasn't able to make a good connection. I really felt for the ladd as I remember what it was like to try and try but keep coming home empty handed. While this young man was hunting, I took my son to another farm and climbed a tree with him before daylight. By 8:30 he had anchored 5 does and a pair of button bucks. We could have kept hunting but I had only taken 13 slugs with us as I didn't think he would ever shoot that many in one day while stand hunting. The longest we went without seeing deer in the morning was about 40 minutes after we got in the woods and we were waiting for shooting light. From then on we had another group come to us every 20 minute or so. He managed to kill all the does that he shot at and missed both buck that he tried to harvest. I was glad after cutting meat all afternoon yesterday that he had missed the bucks the day before. We wound up with 136 lb of ground as well as around 30 pounds of steak and 20 pounds of loins.
Thank you to DP for spending your day in a blind with this young man so that you would have been able to video what I thought would be the young man's first deer kill.
Before anyone gets upset about my son killling more than his limit for youth day, we have crop damage permits that allow us to harvest basically an unlimited number of antlerless deer.
All in all, it was a great weekend with great people that I would not have met without finding and joining the BCA!

Craig- great job keeping that deer population in check.
The last thing we need is for them to get hit by a car or starve to death from lack of food this winter like some of those pansy, humanitarian, o'malley loving liberals would want
What was it like butchering those bambis?

WOW!!!
7 deer in one day. I have never shot that many in a season. That almost doubled my best year. I have been hunting for over 15 years and your son just crushed me in one day.
Great job.

No thanks needed K I. I am glad for the experience and I had very good company all day.
David David David, I could tell ya what the butchering was like but if I did you would throw up.
So to make it easy, you unzip their fur coat and hang it on a rack, under the coat are all these little packages of Styrofoam wrapped in cellophane with meat in side them, just like in the grocery store. Well, the only exception is the purple USDA stamp is missing.

What does it smell like? Can't be any worse than Al's cooler.
Can you make me a pair of slippers?

I wasn't going to mention it, but while we are on the topic...........The port-a-pottys at the wye landing are cleaner than your bio-hazard. If you whized on the floor it might actually freshen up the place.

Negative on the intruder having permits. I know all the guys that are on our permits and he was not one of them. He was back in the evening....this time carrying a crossbow. I waited for about 10 minutes for him but I didn't see him coming across any of the fields to his truck and we had to leave to go pick up the other group. I will find out who he is and make sure it doesn't happen again. I have been seeing deer everywhere this week. Seems like the rut is dragging on a little this year....maybe due to the warn temps???

It was my pleasure. Zane is a great young man. You have done an excellent job parenting him. I'm glad he enjoyed it! I wish he would have scored but there is still a lot of time left in the season. He will make them pay the next time
