The larger of the two was 47 lbs. Didn't weigh the other one. They were both young of the year by looking at their teeth. From what the guys that saw the two last week say, these are one about half as big as one of the two they saw then.

We have seen less foxes this year.......don't know if there is a direct connection there or not??
The 1st thing they do is kill foxes.   When they first showed up along Deer creek all the fox disappeared like over night.

No they dont, Jack.

Fox are as smart or smarter than coyotes. They are faster and smaller, and often coyotes dont bother with them unless its an easy kill.........they just push em out. Believe me, as a trapper, a fox isnt an easy kill and to a coyote, there are much easier things to fill they're belly than a quick nasty tasting fox. Fox just move out of their way, and move back in where they can.

Im not sure your reasoning here, Jack.....you want fox gone, but you like yotes when yotes are nothing more than larger fox......with larger bellies and larger mouths containing larger teeth. Huh

That's what I was told back in the 80's by a trapper.  He was trapping beaver along the creek and fox on our farm.  His claim was that they both feed on the same prey so the yotes seek out fox dens and kill off the foxes.  Made sense to me back then and still does today.  Smiley

except fox dont use dens all the time......If it were that easy, than ask your 80's trapper why he just didnt trap the dens himself. He'd of gotten all the foxes and the coyotes trying to get em.  laugh

He did.  They were easy to find in the fields.... Cool We stopped him from trapping in the area after he caught one of the dogs.  Sad

Evidently, you like roaming your dogs.....not a good combination if you like coyotes as well.

Jack, I respect your stance on Coyotes. Its hard to change peoples' minds when then have one thing on it. In your spare time, do some reading on coyotes facts. There's a reason every state has a bounty on them and an open season all year round. Coyotes have there place, just not here. Like I said, this aint montana....or chicago.

p.s.....your dogs wouldnt last a minute against some coyotes.

Very interesting trend. Great pic ki. This may answer a mistery for me. I've heard some CRAZY sounds coming from the woods at night, and when i say CRAZY i mean CRAZY sounds. I've only heard them the past 3 yrs. I live about 9 miles from the bay in AA county.

Could be anything......fox....yotes.....sika deer....Owls.

Most crazy sounds are usually owls....but foxes make some as well.

Fox can sound like screaming kids....or high squeal-like barks.......but, again, so can owls.

Even furry alligators that some people call Chessies don't stand a chance against coyotes. They are welll tuned killing machines. They do it for a living Wink. Domestcated animals, while some being less worthy as pets than others, are not used to killing everyday to stay alive.

Most likely a fox. The only sound more disturbing to me is a cougar. Just thinking about it makes the hair on my arms stand up.

Had a situation like that once when I was a kid. It was so bad the old man grabbed his gun and a big light to check it out. He came back a few minutes later with a big grin on his face - said it was 2 skunks screwing! Grin
Could be a bobcat or something catching a rabbit. Rabbits make some ungodly screams and noises when something grabs them.

From what I have heard, The Eastern Coyotes have some wolf in them and that is where they get their size. I'm trying to learn more about them so that I can do more as far as controling their population.... I think I have found a new prey interest. My wife just texted me from a few miles away from where I killed these Saturday, she said there is one laying on the road dead, apparently hit by car....

They were in Balto Co. Near Hereford. I have seen them around the Jarrettsville area too, just haven't killed 'em there...

I had heard that Elkridge Harford Hunt Club had live trapped mountain lions and released them in northern Harford County too back in the '50s. I have seen cougars here on more than one occasion. Years ago I saw a documentary on the coyote's eastern movement. They said it wouldn't be long until they were in every county in the nation......Maybe APG decided to speed things along....
