Hi.I'm sending some photos about our closed shedding system here in Brazil.
1) Shedder tables
2) Live soft shell crabs (more females)
3) Biological filters with oyster shells
4) Live blue crab - male
5) Peelers
Thanks for interest,
André

That's quite a system! Who do you sell to? Are softies eaten locally or do you export?

I already exported frozen catfish fillets (Ictalurus punctatus) ,between 2003 to 2009, to US Market but I never exported soft shell crabs .
I've sold my softcrabs to restaurants (high-end market) in several states in Brazil.
Thanks for interest,

Actually, the cost is similar to US softcrabs cost.
Peelers cost is a little bit cheaper than US peeler cost but a few brazilian fishermen are starting to understand about redliners only now . So, it's a learning process and ,maybe, in a couple of years the cost of softcrabs in Brazil will reduce step by step.
Believe me , brazilian fisherman never heard about peelers yet... Can you believe?
In the other hand ,we have peelers 8 to 9 months per year (September to May). The winter season is June,July and August when water temperatures are around 55 to 60°F(15 to 20°C).
The labor cost isn't so high than US labor cost but brazilian labor cost is "really diferent" of Asian labor cost, for instance.
That's it.

Very cool photos. Is there any market in Brazil for Blue crabs. Never thought they would be plentiful that far south .

Come on youngen. Yes, and he's in Brazil, so it would be exporting to the US. If you were bringing them in from Brazil, you would be importing them.
