D,
thanks for the link as the booth attendants are not too talkative at 5 AM when I am going across to hunt these days...
yeah it doubled but it is still a deal like Al said... $40 permit to launch and even with me having to pay the out of state fishing license for fresh, trout, salt and crab boat license at around $87 it is all paid for with the first bushel so it is what it is.... still a deal versus buying crabs all season..... and I get to add in a few limits of MD trout too.. which opens in March a week or so ahead of MD and they also have a fall stocking so I really don't mind... and I get a few days on the lakes in MD too so I get more than money's worth and so it is still moeny well spent IMHO
but, heck the hunting license for deer and waterfowl is around $180 plus so unless you get a deer it is steep...... fishing definitely gives a better pay back.. that or I need to become a better deer hunter
cause 180 = a lot of geese only

That's true. The blue crab makes places like the Wye a destination, and brings money into the region that wouldn't otherwise be there.

very little money in comparison to what is spent and the price of the resources. It would be interesting to see what the average amount spent would be compared to the actual cost of everything else.

What money.. A burger from Wendys before they go home.. This has been hashed out plenty over the years. They come baited, fueled up, catch crabs and go home. Chuck might get a few more rentals and small time bait sales but that's about it. A cash cow for Maryland it aint. I guess the wye party puts a drop into the bucket.

There is a move a foot to make Maryland commercial fishermen pay 100 % on what Maryland spends to enforce commercial laws and regulations. When and if it happens, the courts will make it 100% on the rest of the user groups. Open space monies, Parks and Recreation grants etc., will no longer be used to build county ramps or landings. Look for use permits to triple or more. Licenses for out of state people may be put on an allocation basis, until studies are completed to determine actual costs to the State of Maryland.

A little drip in a huge bucket! And Chuck may make money on his illegal charters and boat rentals

Question?
What illegal charters?? Is he not a licensed guide with the state of Maryland, Does he not have a coast guard license? Does he not have an Unlimited TFL? Where is the illegal part?

According to DNR themselves, taking recs out to crab on a commercial boat ansd accepting payment one can only keep the rec limits. Already inquired

Whether Chucks charters are legal or not, I do not know and giving him the benefit of the doubt seems he and his family are good people......I DO think its very irresponsible and taking advantage of a limited resource to allow 4 guys on a charter to take home 8-10-12 baskets of crabs. I'd like to see the DNR limit the charters to one basket of crabs per paying crabber on board.

Well all of you Maryland residents are welcome to come to Delaware or Nj anytime you wish and use any of the resources we have in either of the states I pay taxes to.I have to say I just don't understand your thought process here.Do you feel you should be the only people capable of taking advantage of your states resources ? How about us NJ residents ,where I pay $9000 yearly taxes saying, out of staters must pay $200 yearly fees to use our beaches ? You're also welcome to come to De ,and catch crabs,go clamming, use the beaches etc.Every state in this great country of ours has its own resources, and I thought as the great nation that we are the UNITED States of America the idea was to share them, and live as one.I guess I'm wrong.Happy Holidays.

I dont want to go to New Jersey or Delaware. Maryland has everything I need and evidently, the people in the forementioned states want to come to our state too.

I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you Chris, maybe you guys are Comms and see your livelihood threatened and I fully understand that.If you're not,and just don't want out of staters there, well then I'll just be thankful that our constitution was written by mature fair minded people.Maybe if you examined everyhting you eat, wear, drive, live in you'd be a little more open minded about all of us needing each other.

Nothing wrong with tourism. Every state has it and use or needs it in one way or the other, but please dont confuse that with MD's very lax OOS recreational crabbing regulations. Your here for one reason, to get as many crabs as you can and get home, spending as little as possible to do so. Marylanders are aware of it and as Reds eluded to, the DNR is as well.
