I know they are open all year but when to they run?

Thanks.
I remember fishing the shores of dundee with him in really cold windy weather.
But we went fishing whenever.

Is the weather fish or fisherman dependent :-) ie you won't go out when it is bad? Or the fish hit better  when the weather is fare or worse?

We use to use grass shrimp or minnows.
Why or when would you use one over the other?

Really just using jigs and mister twisters will nab them?
I have always thought minnows and grass shrimp only. I have a hard time finding that kind of bait around these parts.

What sizes (plastics/metals) do you use?

I was catching one yellow perch every 15 minutes and the guy next to me was catching one almost every cast.

after getting to know him - I asked

he told me when to go and he showed me the bait and the method he used and made me promise not to tell

it worked

I was catching a fish almost every cast. I learned a technique and bait for catching carp and also white perch. Then it was nothing to it.

It did kinda of take the excitement out of catching fish. since you did the same thing every time and caught a fish almost every  time. It became routine.

 Undecided Undecided

So, you won't get bored with fishing and since I promised - I won't tell you when, the bait and the method

 Wink Wink Wink Wink Grin

did the same thing for rockfish
the boat ride took longer than catching your limit of fish

I hear ya MD.
I only ask to get an Idea.
I believe I know what to use, I just like to hear what other people use.
I am and has always been a "poller" type person.
Always interested in what other folks are using. Asking questions etc.

I just never was into the plastics and stuff to know. I always used something form the bait store for fishing.

some fisherman frown on using bait - alive or dead. Takes away some of the challenge and then you are feeding them

got to say, I have seen fish steal a bait and take off but I don't recall a fish steal a lure and take off.

and I doubt if any one on this site is foolish enough to publish really good info on the world wide internet "for the world to see for the next twenty years" about where, when and how to catch a certain fish.

I did not realize that some folks do not like bait.
I made the assumption that lures might frowned upon more.
Oh well.
I have a few spots I am familiar with. Just need to make the two hour drive :-(
Thanks for the insight.

don't ever talk to a fly fisherman about putting a dead bait on his line
 laugh laugh laugh

most that do catch and release use lures. ---------  Don't even know if you can use real bait in bass tournaments
 Grin Grin

avid fisherman frown on using bait - It DON"T take much talent to stick a hook up a worms [arse], then sit and wait

but those mosquitoes - had one bite through a leather belt, to get to my skin. You can hear them break branches when they walk.

ah yes the women. I try to keep to the upscale trailer parks. Wheels gotta be off the trailers.
