End of the season tally.
«

December 12, 2011, 11:30:49 AM »
We finished our season Saturday with only 4 deer on 6 drives. We had a spike and 3 does. Overall, the season was very slow for us as we only harvested 40 during the two week season. We had one piece that never produced a single shot this year.....I attribute the low numbers to having a lower number of hunters, fewer places to hunt than normal and people trespassing.
The highlights of the year were seeing two guys that had never bagged a deer get their first kills.
On the brite side, we were done cutting meat yesterday at 11.
We start counting for the year on opening day of the firearms season and go through the short January firearms season. Somehow, I don't see us getting near our one season high of 104 deer killed back in 2008. Next up.....Muzzleloader!!!!

Thanks D, i wish i could do this stuff but i don't want a phone that's smarter than me. The buck is at the taxidermist who's a close friend, i've hunted with him for over 20 years and he's done all my mounts. He said he would measure it for points just to see where it's at. my club, Big Pine Gun Club, has killed some alot bigger over the years. WEe have 25 members hunting on 975 acres of 1 continuse tract, it's a great family orierted type club with alot of father son uncles and cousins ect.

Chris you asked for it and i'll tell it but it's not such a great story, the hunting part anyway. I'm a bow hunter and ML also when it comes to gun season i really like the deer camp for the social part of it and i believe that folks who just gun hunt are just lucky. first some don't get to scout or get in the woods to see what's going on before gun season. Bow season used to be my passion, hunting deer that are on their natural patterns are what it's all about. I hunt with a crossbow now and am glad to be back in the game. anyway , my wife broke her ancle and 4 bones in her right foot in late august and is just starting to walk without cruches now, she can't go back to work till mid to late january. Well with the wife laid up and not working $$ got a little tight and with having to be there to help with eveyday things time got tight so no ealy bow hunting and then when Eml came no time for that, then missing the rut i was thinking by gun season i would get a chance to hit the woods. and i did, me and my son planned to hunt the whole week something we haven't done since he entered the working full time world after graduating HS he's 25 now. So we went and with no time to scout except my son going a week before the hunt and recutting shooting lanes on my favorite gun stand on a powerline, he told me that some trails really close to my stand were very active that had been a little dead in the past. So opening day i go to my stand that i haven't seen in a year and at 7:10 ,am i don't see the buck come out i just see him almost straight acroos the line walking up the line slowly. there's some brush on the line and i can't see how big he was but i knew he was a shooter, i got the gun up and felt a little rushed but got him in the scope and followed waitng for an opening all i could see was his back, 3 tine on his rack and what looked like a mature face. when he made the lane i picked i grunted with my mouth and he stopped and looked for his last time. When i sqeezed the trigger hebolt forwad 2 leaps then turned hard right into the pines but i heard him crash i thought. My cell phone rang or vibed within 1 minute, my son heard the shot and wanted to know. i told him to stay put till 10 am not want to screw up someone elses opening morning. At 10 my son and aclose friend were under my stand wanting to track, i show then where he was when i shot and they found blood right away and the buck was 2 bounds forward and within sight from the line. moral of the story is that sometimes luck works for me too. i didn't hunt that evening and stayed in camp to cook and enjoy camp life alittle, i didn't hunt sunday either but went to the same stand monday morning and killed a nice doe 80-90 lb from the same stand. we stayed down there till mid day friday then headed home, what a great season after all.

Chris, the picture was taken at home in my garage. i wish i had taken 1 in the field and on the camp meatpole but it was so warm that day i took it to a butcher in fruitland called wrights off of 13 to hang in the cold till i went home. They charged me just 35.00 for the whole week, was the cheapest i could find local. this is about 20 min north of where i hunt but worth the not worrying about spoilage and thieves when no one is at camp. I know you have a farm in the area, do you know of someplace that will hang them closer to pocomoke?

Nice deer RD. I hunt in Pocomoke as well. Those deer get big down there! I have not shot a big deer down there yet but I have seen plenty shot. I just don't have the time to make many trip down there all the time. I do know of someone that has a fridge down there in Pocomoke and I think they charge $5 a day to keep your deer in the walk in fridge. I would have to ask around and see what it in detailed as I remember people talking about it. But I was not paying that much attention. If you want email me and I will try to find out more info for you.

I hunt between snow hill and princess anne. I'm kinda in the same area as you guys. I know a guy with property in pocomoke that they call the meat market. He shot seven does with a bow out of the same stand one year.
