Geese are in Chestertown now. Tons of migrators too and a few snows. There was about 200 at my pond in Elkton yesterday.

Some of the bean and rice fields have geese in them down here. Not many. Usually while sitting in the climber I hear them pass in the morning. Not this year. While fishing yesterday I only saw 1 mallard all day. Plenty coots.

yeah this year worse season for goose and duck in 30 years.......
all this warm weather everything is satying in upstate PA and NY..... but this recent artic front should help.. it will get right just about the time it ends.. evryone I have talked to down the ES of MD all saying the same thing.......
BTW, that pit will not last long especially with press board.. and they should have made it flat on top.....with that aprtially raised roof in back it will cast shadows and not look right once it is back filled and brushed.. we have to go and level our pit out every eyar.. and even if of by a few inches on bright sunny days it shows a shadow and the birds get wise to it especailly in late season.....looks more like a buried blind than a true pit........

If geese wanna come in, they are gonna go. Hills make shadows too, just like a slanted roof....I don't see how it makes much difference.

ya no you could buy a bradley metal blind/pit or you can go out and buy/borrow or steal a metal dumpster - the open kind roll out kind or the kind with a lid and get that welder and acetylene torch out ther ya go I like the 20 or 30 yard model (30 is deeper)- holds 6/7 hunters and with a pitched roof to keep the rain out. Put in a bench or bring a lawn chair The problem with those roll offs is they are to wide. 8' wide will get someone shot. |

That's what we used on farms we rented every year. 1500 gallon, one compartment tanks. They were about 4' deep and 5.5' wide. Would hold 3 people and a guide. When you stood up to shoot, the gun barrel was outside the pit. A lot safer that way. |
