7/14/2007 Trip The Masters Johnny & Scotty,
Hit The Road @ Dark o'thirty with The Dude and Little Joe, then we headed south to Jersey and picked up our brother Johnny Handlines... Got to the Wye and met up with Scott (Rivercrab) and Rick (Crabologist) who we our Hosts for this trip.. (Thanks Guys) Dude rode with Rick and me, Johnny and Little Joe headed out with our Brother Scott... crabbing was slow most of the day as was the case for most on the water, and by a little past noon Rick had to leave so we took on the Dude... we used trot lines and that was a new experience for both The Dude and Little Joe and they both had a hoot.... Later we had to rescue a woman who's boat was going down as it tossed her into the water, so we made the move to pick her up, before we could even reach her her main concern was for her hard earned crabs which we rescued also along with her husband and daughter and her floating gear
another boat helped tow the underwater boat back to the dock... we crabbed some more then headed back early to the dock where we whacked up the crabs deciding to share some with our brother The Dude who was crabless at this point... after loading the boat we went to the hotel and showered up and went out to a well deserved dinner nearby... which was followed up by some cold beers at the pool and a visit from a special guest
who wanted to say hello to everyone...
All in all it was another Great trip with Some Great Friends making some memories that will last a lifetime.. Thanks Guys
thanks for posting Joe.. got back yesterday from a week down Sea Isle.. rented a boat from Larsens and took my little gal crabbing. actually, landed about 40 keepers of NJ size crabs
Lots of throw backs but had a great day on the water.
as for the Wye with you guys. it was a fun day. tried my hand at trot lining on Rick's ride. nothing to it.. got the hang of it right away.. but i will say the crabs were not coming fast and furious so my skills weren't really tested to the max. all in all thou I'd say there were a good 28-30 quality size crabs when we stopped at noon on Rick's boat.. thanks for the lesson in trot-lining Rick.
A BIG THANKS to Scotty and the crew for allowing me to board his vessel
.. and a SPECIAL BIG THANKS
for splitting up the crew's catch at the end of the day. As you mentioned brother Joe, I came on-board without crabs so I deeply appreciate Scotty, Johnny and your generosity. It will not go unreconized.
I did like using the trot line and I can see how one can catch alot of crabs in a short amount of time but it does have some flaws. i'm not sure of the terminology but the line did get caught up quite a bit when going over the gizmo. and at times there was too much slack in the line where it wasn't working properly until the tension was back in the line. maybe it was the setup in Rick's boat as I didn't see this happen on Scotty's line. anyway, I do kinda like using traps still even though the pulling can give a good workout..
