tiller extension

going to rig up a smaller boat for solo quick trips and im looking for ideas for tiller extensions. Post a picture to show what you came up with. Thanks in advance!

Just buy a tiller extension or hose clamp a piece of PVC to the tiller handle you have....

 I took a piece of thin wall pvc that slipped over the tiller grip.....I then cut lengthwise slots in it so a s/s hose clamp could tighten it to the grip......it is only 2" longer than the tiller,but I glued a bushing on the end which allows another length of pvc to be added for the proper overall length...lasted 10 seasons so far, but i did loose access to my shut off switch..

I wonder if you could install a landyard switch as a secondary and only use it when using the extentsion - I have been giving this some thought myself. I do not suspect it would be too hard to do.

A few washers, pins, springs and a piece of wooden dowel should do the trick......

I like the tiller extentsion idea a lot, however my major concern is RPM or Throttle Limit so while possbily standing in a not so secure position one does not put themselves over the side or out the back. I have been known to have a few left feet myself at some very choice times.

I used to straddle the rear seat and steer with my left,dip with my right,little hard on the back. I bought a like new used telescopic one on ebay shipped for $15 last winter. They work great. I love it on my Mercury because all the controls are on the twist grip. I leave it on all the time. I was gonna make one out of pvc that spring if I didn't find one. I love being able to adjust the length. Keep watching ebay they go high teens low twenty's.

I like the tiller extentsion idea a lot, however my major concern is RPM or Throttle Limit so while possbily standing in a not so secure position one does not put themselves over the side or out the back. I have been known to have a few left feet myself at some very choice times.

My friend has a 17' aluminum boat with a 40 hp honda that'll fly.  I run it all the time and stand when driving.  It will knock you on your a$$ if your not careful but its actually pretty easy to handle without loosing your balance.

With age you tend to become more accustomed to opting for the safer (wiser) ways of doing things....getting old sucks, don't get me wrong, but with age, comfort comes in many forms along with the possibility of avoiding pain that comes more to the forefront of your everyday life.
