If MD crabs are so great, then why do MD restaurants buy Louisiana crabs?

Because few people buy Louisiana Steamed Crabs..... They need to sell them somewhere that knows how to steam crabs....

I've had Montana, New Mexico, Vermont, Ohio & Michigan crabs.....they all had a strong taste of dirt or sand.........................just another poll that adds up to nothing. Must be the need in Winter to argue.........lets start the clean before you cook poll again

Inland crabs? The poll is about the ones you have to fish for, not the ones you need medication for...

I think that for the most part, crabs from NJ to southern MD are practically the same. The salt levels in the water (I would imagine...no factual info here) would be relatively equal. This to me would produce the same crabs. I would have to say that it would be a better judge of quality if it is done by region. Again that is just IMO.

I'd tend to agree Carl, having never experienced the taste of a blue crab outside of GA state lines, I don't feel I could vote anyways. That and they forgot us Georgians... LOL
All I know is, if it's in my trap, it's in my steamer... (cleaned
beforehand
of course... LOL) To me, crabs caught in Tybee Island (North GA) taste the same as St Mary's river (South GA) as they do all places I trap in between.

Mine have a very "clean" & "beautiful" taste right away coming "fresh out of the water" in my FL area(s), guys.
Along with that, I can practically get a "fresh, soothing & crispy" (when requested) taste out of the Blue Crab combined with the Stone Crab combined with another Crab combined with something else, such as Fish or Shrimp or another FL island dessert of so many.
Maybe it's more about the "cook" & how he makes his meals, rather than on Crab just tasting like dirt/sand because it "vacations" in an area of dirt/sand, right?
The Fishing, Stone Crabbing & everything else combined are what makes me wanna give the most credit to FL for having the best tasting Blue Crab, period!

I can see where you're "hanging" from and, all considered, I'd pretty much just "credit" FL for them. Afterall, no place "hanging" better to them than FL, especially on the far Gulf Coast, so...

Had some "southern" crabs for superbowl sunday....They were full and packed..BUT.. you could def. tell the difference between them and a MD crab.....warm water crabs have a slightly "fishy" flavor compared to the northern crab. jmo

I've noticed fishy taste in crabs from many places when they are caught in pots. I think it's from them being in close proximity to the rotting fish that the pots are baited with. I realize the fish used are usually fresh but how long does it stay fresh in relatively warm water?

WELL--- I have to give the Gulf Coast / Louisiana my vote.
Because it's the only crabs I have eaten and boiled in some
spicy seasoned H2O is hard to beat. ( NOT STEAMED )
Never had steamed but I must say I would like to try some
steamed oneday to make a judgement.
Crabbing and crabs all year round --- a great blessing
for Gulf Coasters.
SORRY --- never eaten crabs from any where else to
make a comparison ------ going with what I know.
