I heard all my life that Maryland crabs were the best, but I think that's silly. I think a blue crab tastes like a blue crab provided that it's healthy and it wasn't dead when it was cooked.

The Chesapeake bay has been so over crabbed, and it's tough to find any keepers anymore, especially if you just handbait and dip em like we do.  All that work, by the time you have enough for a meal, you're almost too hungry to care what they taste like!

In SC or Florida, the two of us can catch 3 dozen or so in a day or less. And it doesn't require going out on a boat to get them.

I use handlines and catch big fat crabs all summer long. I've crabbed off many different piers in Maryland and have always been happy with my catch. There's been slow days and really good days but the bay is not over crabbed in my opinion.I've brought home a bushel more then once in 4 hrs crabbing.
