Can recreational crabbers set traps or run trotlines in rivers now on Wednesdays?  Page 45 of the 2012 Fishing guide book states...

Time Restrictions
It is illegal to set, place or fish crabbing gear prior to or after the prescribed time restrictions.
Rivers, Creeks And Tributaries
• April and October through December 15
o One half hour after sunrise to sunset
• May through September
o One half hour before sunrise to sunset
Chesapeake Bay
• April and October through December 15
o One half hour after sunrise to 5:00 p.m.
• May through September
o One half hour before sunrise to 5:00 p.m
• No crabbing on Wednesdays except:
1. when using crab pots from private piers;
2. when using seines, handlines or dip nets; or
3. on a Wednesday during a week when a state or federal holiday falls on a
Wednesday or Thursday.

on a second look I think they just did a poor job of using their bulletins to illustrate that applies to everything.  Same thing for Private Property.  Can someone confirm?

I take it to mean you still can't crab on Wednesdays UNLESS Wednesday or Thursday of that week is a holiday. It sounds like to me they are giving you a chance to have fresh crabs for a holiday bbq. If this isn't the norm kudos to the legislators or whoever sets these rules.

Take a look at your calendars July 4 is a Wednesday this year. Really stupid I know, but it is.  Who ever set the calendar this year should get a nice reaming in my opinion.

Where does it say OK to use traps or trotlines?

It is strange that they word the holiday thing that way.  If you look at a calendar the only floating holiday in all the crabbing season is 4th of July.  Maybe Flag Day counts?  That's on a Thurs this year.

Unless I'm missing something, all the other holidays are pegged to Sun or Mon.  Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day.

Oops, I guess you can crab the day before Thanksgiving every year!

Good point Cpt Moose.  I didn't catch that.  I take back half the Kudos i gave out. Its a shame that regs have to be so confusing and misleading.

Here is how it looks in the 2012 Official Guide book.  If I didn't know the rules already I would think that there are no Wed. restrictions on crabbing in Rivers, Creeks and Tributaries.  IMO, it's just a poor placement of the bullet.  I think the Thurs Holiday thing is new this year.

Good point! Bad Bullet Placement. Once again Marylands regs are clear as mud!

I'll be out on the 3rd so the campground poachers find empty pots when they check them.

I agree, if I didn't know better, reading that I would without a doubt think that you could crab on wendsdays in the rivers, creeks, and tributaries, just not the Bay.

1 rec crab license boat and 1 person license= 1 bushel
2 person with license  =2 bushel
1 rec crab license boat and 2 license persons =2 bushel

Anyone can used the use the Licensed Boat for a bushel of crabs. EI: you own the boat in partnership. loan it to a buddy - they would not need an individual license as they are covered under the boat license.

A family would only need a boat license and anyone using the boat is covered.

Can the individual crabbing license that comes with the boat license be used elsewhere while the boat license is being used??

1 rec crab license boat and 1 person license (NOT the boat owner w/the complimentary license) = 2 bushels
