Only 65 days left until the first trip is planned
«

I looked at my first report from last year and managed a couple dozen on 5/14. This year I'll be targeting
5/12
5/5 weather permitting and God willing. The date is officially revised to 5/5. If the weather continues to look as good as it has I may even pull it into April. Dropping the boat off tomorrow at Campbell's for the pre-season tune up and check up, so I'll be ready to go as soon as possible.

Im sure I will be in the Wye river around the middle of may and would be happy with a couple of dozens. It does depend on the weather but so far we have had a very mild winter. Also the salinity level. I got the book beautiful swimmers so might learn something from that. But there is the tread avon river which some of the commercial guys i spoke with said they run in april cause they are local crabs that dont go nowhere over the winter. Not sure about that but thats what they said. I have caught a few dozen in may there but was told i was a couple of weeks late. Who knows!

With the warm weather maybe we should try the 5th. Just stay out of April.

I never touched April I swear! I'm all for pushing it a week up if the weather's cooperating (and with Ron's blessing). Never really much mattered if I caught anything or not early season, just good to be out.
I just downloaded my parking permit application and am going to mail it out this weekend. It's $30 cheaper to get it done before March 31st. I've been getting away with out it for a couple years but, for $20 it's well worth saving the aggravation.

Thank you very much I printed one out
Just think, if it's shortened to May 5th, and with a blessing from the Ronster, it cuts the days down to 109.

You guys should be pulling your permits for Kennedy Park in Somers Point. Much better ramp and parking facilities.

Never tried Kennedy, that puts you out in the Great Egg Harbor it looks. I wouldn't mind getting a permit for there also, it looks like it's between $30 and $50 for a season pass. I just can't figure out how to get one??

For the first trip, yes. Maybe the pontoon will be in the water by then, though.
I also am working on a small Whaler I bought a couple of week's back. That may ultimately replace the pontoon boat in NJ.

Where I crab in the Galveston Bay complex on the upper Texas coast, our water is warming up. The forecasted high temperature for today down there is 77 degrees.
Earlier this morning, I checked two places where I normally crab. At the North Jetty on the Bolivar Peninsula, the water temperature is 64.8 degrees and at Morgan's Point on upper Trinity Bay, it's 67.1 degrees.
We have a cold front coming in Friday night, but it will only be felt on the coast for one day and night and then the warm weather comes back.
If we don't have any more severe cold fronts come through, I'm hoping to make my first crabbing trip of 2012 on or around March 15th.
