I have been looking around the forums the last couple days and have not been able to find something out. I have access to get 550 parachute cord really cheap and was wondering how it would work for the mainline on a trot line with snooze? I am looking to make it 1200 feet in two sections. Does anyone have any experience with parachute cord and how well does it work? Thanks in advance.

I was wondering the same thing. 1/8th or 5/32 diameter and 550lb test....sounds great as long as it sinks, and it should since it is mostly nylon braid. Can be bought cheap at any army/navy surplus store. I've used it in many many applications...it holds up very well.

I would question it's durability in this application. Sometimes free isn't cheap enough when it falls apart on you in the middle of the only trip you can make that week or month. I try to do everything possible without breaking the bank to make sure my time on the water has as few glitches as possible.

I use it now. There are only 2 drawbacks that I have found. After a few uses it gets abrasive on your hands when dry (ie putting out or baiting your line) and the other is it will cut through a nylon or poly propstick before you know it. On the plus side I have been using the same line for at least six years 2 of the years daily...Good stuff JMO

Craig not corrected, just informed. It was given to me by my brother, from my uncle, after he used it for 2 years. I would never have bought it myself seeing it in a store kinda was gifted into using it.  Heck, I wouldn't know you could smoke a turkey without your input and the roller nets. I have learned (stolen more knowledge) more from you than you'll ever know... |
