Doc says I've caught the CRAB FEVER

Went out goose hunting this morning with 4 dozens decoys.  Had an early flight of a large flock of birds land on the property next to us, all other flocks went straight there! So in other words a frustrating day of 0 geese.

BIRD BOBMS!!
haha we were totally discussing that. Buying a cheap remote controlled airplane with an IED, but then our problem would be getting the casualties of war off the neighbor's field.

yes if you get live birds down anywhere near you and your spread good luck getting any future birds to come into a decoy spread.  You are better to get the birds up if possible... Go over close as you can and fire off a round and they may get up and actually come into your spread.. we have had that happen in the past... but if you leave them there you will have no to little chance to compete against a live flock...

this is especially true as the season gets late and they birds get decoy wise.  You can tell when this is the case as the birds will have their heads and necks swing back and forth relly scutinizing your birds.. motion decoys help this time of yearr if leagl in you rarea.  They are in MD not in PA  unless manually operated in PA.  MD you can use either but they will get "educated" birds to toll on decoys late season ...when birds have been shot on and are leary

What he said, but..................This can be construed as "harassing" waterfowl or the like....moving/etc...it "may" be illegal?? I do not know for sure, but in Tx, the CO frowned on the airboats just "running" to pic up coffee when birds did not fly?? I therefore never did it Wink Grin

I did not say harass the waterfowl I said try not to let them pitch in a place close by if you can....and if they do they do... we have it happen too, however sometimes they wil all toll into the live spread... but keep an ear out as many times near our farm they start getting really really loud and that means they are getting up and when they do they usually remember seeing your spead and may come back to it later when they get back up.... we have had god luck when that happens
Also this time of year trying to get a large flock of birds to come in and toll is pretty dang tough.. ideally you want those nice groups like pairs 4's 6's 8's etc.. small groups much easier to convince to toll or commit.  In large flocks it only takes 1 bird in the hole group to decide he dosen't like what he sees or hears and he can and will clare and take most if not al the other birds with him.. it is amazing....also small groups I enjoy more as you tned to shoot better too versusu flock shooting when there is a large gorup and thus tend to miss more birds... small tols tend to make you focus more .... and if you have several guys gunning then you just have 1 or 2 shoot and take tunrs that to me is much more fun an dbetter than having 4-6 guys gun 1 or 2 geese and then shoot em all up.. seen guys do that too......

Birds worked in our favor today.  They flew in quiet, making not much sound except coming in to dive bomb.  It was a blast, first year trying waterfowl, couple weeks ago I shot my first mallards/drakes, last saturday shot my first goose, and today my first day shooting my 2 bird limit.  One of my friends wasn't so lucky! Hoping to get back on the birds again soon.  It is safe to say I'm hooked on Honkers.

good to see they are finally showing up.....  course it figures the season is about done....  and yeaah we have had birds come in w/o making a sound and other times noisey as heck....kinda give what they give you. little or no calling do the same back.. noisey loud then do the same  usually a lead bird wil be more pronounced than th eothers duplliacte best you can that lead bird if he honks honk back same tone and cadences...  but that is an exceptional day for this season.... nice job...

We hunted a pond monday but didn't have much cover.  This past saturday we hunted a field across the street from where we were today.  The migratories are finally coming through.  The birds were flying early this morn.  I just got even more on my boss' good side by bringing her in a goose today laugh

I'm finally starting to see more normal numbers of birds here too. Figures the season is almost over. Should be plenty of seed for next year!

Way to go! I didn't go this morn...wish I did the ducks were piled in the tax ditch that runs along the property I hunt.  Sleep deprivation got the best of me from hunting the am's then running to work ha. Good luck tomorrow if you go out. I'm hoping to get one more deer...the big buck preferably but any meat would work.
